She Is Worth More Than Rubies

Most Christian women have labored over this passage of scripture over and over...and over. I know I have and I have thought to myself each time, "I will never be this woman, it is impossible to be this...good". I was under the impression that there was a "checklist" that I needed to accomplish to become this woman. Wake up before the sun, complete all the housework with a smile on my face, never lash out or raise my voice, be perfect.  I would pray to God to please, show me a way to become the Proverbs 31 woman. I wanted to be a perfect wife, with a perfect home and a perfect life. I wanted to bring my husband nothing but good, I wanted to be worth more than rubies! It was then that I realized why I was having such trouble accepting my role as the "virtuous woman".
She is not perfect, and she does not care if she appears to be perfect. I was focusing entirely too much who I was supposed to be, how I was supposed to act and how I thought I was supposed to look instead of who my God made me. The Proverbs 31 woman is uniquely herself. She has struggles just like we do, but it is the way that she handles them that makes her a virtuous woman. She approaches every situation with dignity and grace. She shows God's love to everyone through her own actions. You see, charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting. Life is not about how we act or how we appear. A woman who fears the Lord will be recognized. He lives within her, so she is able to shine. She can fearlessly move forward because she walks in faith.
We can all be Proverbs 31 women. Instead of praying for God to change you, pray for Him to lead you; pray for Him to help you share his love and the grace that He has shown you with others and thank Him for making you unique.
