Auld Lang Syne

On new years eve, while running (a very difficult run might I add, the Holidays were not good to me), I started to reflect on this past year and think about how fast it seemed to come and go. I began 2013 so hopeful for the future with a world of expectations. I was getting married, buying my first house with my future husband, moving and feeling very adult. 2013 was by far the best year of my life, and I thought I would relish every moment, take pictures of every second, document every milestone. But instead, I found myself on December 31st thinking, "What the heck just happened?! What do you mean the year is over? Wait! Slow down! Where did the time go?!"
This year has been a whirlwind at the very least. So many changes were made, milestones completed and lives altered. New friends were made, and some old ones fell away. Lots of weddings were celebrated, including my own, losses were mourned, and engagements were congratulated. There were triumphs and set backs, gains and losses. We witnessed miracles and tragedies. We worked hard, we laughed, and we cried. Through all of these things, I learned to love on a level that I never knew possible. I learned things I never new about myself, about life and about marriage and I grew.
2013 tested my faith but through everything, it taught me the God is good.
My favorite "holiday" song, Auld Lang Syne, refers to the "good old days". I know that we are going to look back on this first year of marriage and think, "those were the good old days" like you hear so many couples do. This year has been grand, it's true. And yes, it will be hard to beat, but with the love of my life by my side, and the support of some extraordinary friends and family, I hope to make 2014, and then 2015, 16 and so on the the best years of my life, the new good old days. My prayer for this year is that we never stop growing, loving, losing and experiencing life to the fullest.
Cheers to accomplishing goals and learning from set backs!
Here's looking at you 2014
