Healthy Homemade Chili

We love chili.
It is my go to meal on cold days, tired days, hosting family for dinner days, football days…chili craving days. I love it made in a crock pot, in a stock pot, and reheated in the microwave. But it didn't take me long to realize that I could do better than those little chili packets, not to mention they weren't the best things to be eating on a bi-weekly basis. The best thing about this recipe is you have the option of making it completely organic, if you so choose.
This delicious, simple, from scratch recipe will keep your guests (or your man) coming back for more!
Combine all of your chopped goods for easy addition
Add more spice according to taste
Just combine everything in one big pot!
And let it cook down to chili deliciousness
Serve with homemade biscuits or your favorite toppings

What you'll need:
1 pack (1 lb.) lean ground turkey meat
Assorted bell peppers ( I use 1 of each-Green,Yellow, Orange, and Red)
1/2 white onion
1 Tsp chopped garlic
2 cans organic diced tomatoes (no salt added)
1 Can organic tomato paste
1 Can black beans
1 Can pinto beans
1 Tsp garlic powder
2 Tsp cumin
1 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tsp dried oregano
2 Tsp sea salt
1 Tsp black pepper
EVOO for browning meat
Cayenne pepper to taste

In your large pot, on medium heat, cook turkey meat.
While meat is cooking, chop peppers, onion and garlic and combine all spices in a separate bowl.
Once meat has cooked through, add peppers, onion, and garlic. Continue to cook on medium heat until veggies are soft and fragrant.
Stir in tomatoes, beans, tomato paste, and spice mixture.
Bring chili to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer and cover.
Let simmer, covered, for about 20 minutes or until thickened.
Add cayenne pepper to taste. (I literally only sprinkle a tiny bit because I am a spice sissy!)
Serve hot with favorite toppings or bread!

  2. Thank you Lisa! We eat a serious amount of chili around here and I love this spice combination so much more than the pre-made packets.
